Our group is a member of the newly established Collaborative Research Center CRC 325, an interdisciplinary consortium of synthetic chemists, biochemists, spectroscopists, and theoreticians, who focus on Assembly-Controlled Chemical Photocatalysis.
The theory project of the CRC is a joint project of the groups of Regina de Vivie-Riedle and Christian Ochsenfeld (both LMU), in which we aim for an atomistic understanding of photocatalysis with predictive power. To this extent we will develop a multi scale tool box for high-level quantum mechanics / molecular mechanics (QM/MM) simulations.
We will employ QM methods at various levels of theory as well as dynamics methods ranging from (semi-)classical molecular dynamics to wavepacket quantum dynamics. All simulations are planned for the isolated molecules as well as for the systems in their explicit environment. In collaboration with experimental groups of the CRC, the theory project will address selected examples focusing on identifying the factors, which influence the lifetime and activity of the photocatalyst.We are currently looking for a dedicated and talented
who is interested in developing and applying theoretical chemistry tools to answer questions in photocatalysis and excited states dynamics. The PhD position is fully funded through the Collaborative Research Center CRC 325. Candidates with a Master's degree in Chemistry or Physics, who are highly motivated to learn about photochemistry and theoretical chemistry, are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in electronic structure calculations and/or dynamics simulations will be of benefit.
