Study program and examination regulations dated of May 2015 - effective for students matriculated since WiSe 15/16

No possibility to change into the new examination regulation if you are already matriculated into the master program. (s. § 35 (2) of the Prüfungsordnung (PO) !!!!

According to the Examination Regulation of May 2015, the master program is modularized. Most of the modules are finishing with a graded examination (s. below). The final grade is calculated by all marks of the modules. In addition, all examinations are recorded with ECTS (see Examination Regulation).

V=lecture, P=lab course, S=seminar, Coll=Colloquium; SWS=hours per week, ECTS=credit points, MP=module exam, MTP=submodul exam;

The program’s basic concept offers students two options (see Figure):

Option A):

  • The choice of three major subjects (required electives, WB) in chemistry fields 1.-4. with 30 ECTS credits each (WB-A, WB-B, WB-C) - see below.
Each major subject comprise a lab module with a specialized research lab course with seminar (with 16+2 SWS) and a theoretical module, which encompasses a compulsory colloquium and a large number of lecture courses (between four and ten) from which three must be chosen (3x2 SWS). Both modules of a major are graded. The theoretical module has an oral examination covering the three chosen lectures and the colloquium.
Following major subjects and their required modules (WP) can be chosen, each with 15 ECTS (details see module scheme below):
  • The master thesis within 6 months (30 ECTS).

Option B):

  • The choice of two major subjects (required electives, WB) in chemistry fields 1.-4. with 30 ECTS credits each (see option A) above).
  • One additional minor subject with 15 ECTS (s. below).
The minor subject comprises a lab module with a specialized research lab course (10 SWS) and a theoretical module, which encompasses a number of lecture courses from which two must be chosen (2x2 SWS). Subjects which had been chosen as a major may not be taken as minor subject! The structure of the modules may be different in minor subjects not from the Department of Chemistry, e.g. in physics, computer sciences, etc. Both modules of the minor are graded. The theoretical module has an oral or written examination covering both chosen lectures.
One of the following minor subjects and their required modules (WP) can be chosen, each with 15 ECTS (details see below):
    1. Inorganic Chemistry (WP 8, WP 44)
    2. Organic Chemistry (WP 9, WP 45)
    3. Physical Chemistry (WP 10, WP 46)
    4. Theoretical Chemistry (WP 11, WP 47)
    5. Chemical Biology (WP 12, WP 48)
    6. Biochemistry (WP 13, WP 49)
    7. Molecular and cellular genetics (WP 14, WP 50)
    8. Structurbiology (WP 5, WP 16, WP 43)

    11. Specific Supplement to Chemistry (pharmacology and toxicology) (WP 15, WP 51)
  • Further five Specialisation lectures covering 15 ECTS in total.

The required five specialized lecture courses, with 3 ECTS each, may be selected from among the major and minor courses but may not be counted twice if the courses were taken earlier (see below).
Each lecture is examination without grading.

  • The master thesis within 6 months (30 ECTS).
