Applying for admission
Students with general university qualification (Abitur), students
graduating from professional trade schools (BOS, with a second
foreign language) and technical colleges (FOS 13) may apply to the
LMU.
Persons who do not have a general university qualification (for example, FOS
12), can receive the qualification upon successful completion of the
Vordiplom or a bachelor's degree at a university of applied science.
Before you van begin studying within a program, you must first apply or matriculate. There are two steps to this:
- Application for admission - the placement exam - at the Faculty for Chemistry and Pharmacy at the LMU.
- Matriculation (registration) at the Registrar's Office (Studentenkanzlei) of the LMU.
1. Application for admission
The first step toward admission takes place at the Faculty for Chemistry and
Pharmacy in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Departments.
If you receive a written placement confirmation from the Department, you can
proceed to step two.

For new students:
The bachelor's program for chemistry and biochemistry always begins in the winter semester. The application deadline is July 15. For further details, click here: Required documents -
For transfer students:
Transfer students may apply for admission to the bachelor program in either the winter or the summer semester. Deadline for entry into the winter semester is July 15, for the summer semester, January 15. For further details, click here: Required documents or here: Transfer students -
For foreign students:
Foreign citizens who did not receive an Abitur in Germany or at a German school abroad must additionally apply at the Office of International Affairs (Referat für Internationale Angelegenheiten) and submit further documents there such as the Antrag auf Zulassung, German-test results, notarized copies of grades, etc. Further information here.
This applies to new bachelor students as well as transfer students and students changing their major.
The same deadlines are also valid: July 15 for the winter semester and January 15 for the summer semester.
If you receive a letter of acceptance to the LMU from the Office of International Affairs, you may, along with the letter of acceptance from the Department of Chemistry or Biochemistry, proceed to step two.
2. Registration at the LMU
General information:
You can register at the LMU after you have received your letter of acceptance
from the Chemistry or Biochemistry Department (and, for foreign students, your
letter of acceptance from the Office of International Affairs). Registration
(matriculation) must be done in person after you have filled out the
online form (
LMU-Website ). Filling out the online form does not mean you have registered!

Registration takes place only twice a year at the Registrar's Office. Please take note of the deadlines!
You must submit all necessary documents when registering in person: the online form, your university qualification certificate, your passport, proof of health insurance, and letter of acceptance from the Department of Chemistry or Biochemistry.
